The Met Gala is more than a celebrity event; it’s a celebration of fashion as art, identity, and cultural expression. This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, spotlighted the legacy of Black dandyism and the power of tailoring as self-expression. Celebrities and designers brought the theme to life on May 5th with bold, unforgettable looks. But while news feeds were flooded with images, many lacked the descriptions needed for assistive technology users to fully engage. At Scribely, we believe fashion should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we’ve written detailed, accessible descriptions of 10 standout looks from the 2025 Met Gala to invite more people to join the conversation around this iconic cultural moment.
Diana Ross in a collaboration between herself, Evan Ross, and Ugo Mozie

Diana Ross’s form-fitting silvery white, crystal-encrusted gown is nearly swallowed by a snowy white, satiny, feather-lined train that drapes down seven steps and across two blue-carpeted landings. What first appears to be faint, ghostly twigs forking across the train are the embroidered names of her five children and eight grandchildren.
The gown has a low V-shaped neckline and double spaghetti straps angled over each shoulder. More straps from the shoulders connect to sleeves that start on the mid-upper arms and disappear amid a froth of feathers from the train, which wraps around both forearms.
A wide-brimmed hat also edged with white feathers frames her beaming face like an ethereal but decidedly palpable halo. Her long, black, curly hair falls loosely over her shoulders. Crystal chandelier earrings brush against her neck and the tops of her collarbone. A marquis-shaped crystal glints between her eyebrows, and a teardrop-shaped crystal is alongside each eye. Her eyes and lips are tinted mauve purple.
Shaboozey in Robert Wun with jewelry by David Yurman

Shaboozey’s black suit is draped down the front with almost three dozen strands of turquoise beads, which almost create the impression of a beaded bodice. Each strand is graduated so the largest beads are at the center and they become smaller up each side. The suit’s short jacket falls to his ribs, and long sleeves split over the wrists. The pants flare into bell bottoms that cover Shaboozey’s feet. The fabric of the suit gleams with rippling streaks of smoky gray, which resemble oil slicks on water. A bow the width of his face is tied at the neck, and the diamond-shaped ends lie over the beads on his chest.
Sixteen strands of turquoise beads are attached to the back of the jacket sleeves, so they drape in swags across Shaboozey’s back. Two long, black, tie-shaped strips follow him like a train. A flat, round, black hat sits at an angle on one side of his head. His long, straight hair is worn in thick dreadlocks that hang to his upper back. His smile reveals a turquoise grillz, and his gold watch has a turquoise face. One ring he wears is set with a square turquoise stone, and the other is a signet-style ring set with white stones, presumably diamonds.
Cardi B in Burberry by Daniel Lee

Cardi B wears a moss-green, textured velvet, floor-length coat over matching wide-leg pants. The coat’s shoulders are slightly flared and create crisp right angles to the sleeves. The neckline of the celery-green shirt she wears underneath plummets nearly to her naval. Dense ruffles line the coat’s lapels and reach to a wide, pine-green cumberbund. The coat tucks tightly to her narrow waist and flares over her hips.
Cardi B’s long nails are painted leaf green, and she wears several diamond rings and bands. A glittering flower, perhaps a rosebud, gently curves the length of her left lapel. Her diamond necklace has a diamond set into an upside-down teardrop-shaped pendant, and dangling diamond earrings fall past her chin.
Her dark hair reaches her shoulders in an angular bob shaped in textured wedges. A wave of hair crests from a low part over one ear to the far shoulder. Her makeup is natural except for acid-green eye shadow, smoky cat’s eyes, and pale green contacts.
Tessa Thompson in Prabal Gurung

Tessa Thompson’s ivory-white, satiny suit-dress creates an hourglass shape with wide shoulders, a narrow waist, and a widely flaring, bell-shaped skirt in a hyper-feminine silhouette. The gown has silver stitching down the arms, down the sides, and from under the angular, black lapels all the way down to the bottom hem. The stiff skirt encircles her legs, and the hem is higher at the front and dips lower in the back. Only the ends of her fingers emerge from under layers of black ruffles at the cuffs. Ten round black buttons create a vertical line down the front of the coat-dress.
Under the coat, a shiny black tie is knotted in the high-necked, white collared shirt. A diamond brooch glimmers from one lapel, and she wears rings on several fingers. Her hair is styled in a mouth-length, blunt bob, which flares out from under an organically shaped top hat. The sequinned hat sits askance over one temple, and the edges curve and bulge.
Tessa wears black, platform stiletto Mary Janes with shiny black socks that come mid-calf over black stockings. She holds a church fan, which is made up of a square piece of stiff board with rounded corners and inward-curving sides affixed to a wooden stick. On it is a sepia-toned portrait of André Leon Talley.
Rihanna in Marc Jacobs

Rihanna’s look layered a short, black, satin jacket over a pinstriped bodice and a skirt edged with a lapel and buttons to resemble a repurposed suit jacket. The short, boxy jacket falls to her ribcage, and the long sleeves reach to the first knuckles on the back of her palms. A midnight-blue pocket square is patterned with white polka dots, and a short black strap ending with diamond fittings on either end hangs over the breast pocket.
Rihanna wears a floating, white, high-necked collar ornamented with diamonds at the tips. Her white polka-dotted, wine-red ascot lies over a diamond necklace and falls to her chest. The bodice is made up of strips of smoke gray fabric with black pinstripes molded to her torso and baby bump. The skirt has two buttons, one just under her bump and the other on the upper thigh. The lapels line her waist like petals on a blooming flower, and the opening of the jacket-skirt acts as the slit. The sleeves are pinned at the back to make a bustle.
Her wide-crowned black hat sits at an angle over one eyebrow, and the broad brim is as wide as her shoulders. She wears diamond stud earrings, a sapphire and diamond ring, and two-tone white and black, loafer-style stiletto heels. The pointy tips of the shoes are black, and the white vamps lace up over the bridges of her feet.
Janelle Monae in Thom Browne

The first of Janelle Monae’s two looks was made up of a cape-like garment with shoulders that extend straight out from the neck and which fall to the ground in a columnar shape that envelops her body. The garment was printed with the image of a suit with wide but rounded shoulders, a nipped waist, and long legs. The left half of the suit is black with a white pinstripe, and this hand appears to wear gold rings. The right half of the suit is black with white piping. That hand holds a briefcase-like bag with a gold decoration suggesting a clasp. Both sides of the printed suit share a white shirt and a black and red striped tie. The areas around the printed suit are cherry red with white outlines that emanate from the suit’s contours like geometric sound waves.
Janelle wears a black bowler hat with a white-edged brim. Vertical white stripes on the left half of the hat match the pinstripes on the left half of the printed suit. A steampunk-style monocle with mechanical and metal fittings extends from the underside of the brim to cover one eye. The clear lens is a clock face, and two gold hands move around in a dizzying swirl. She poses with her face straight on, her expression blank.
Once removing the cloak, Janelle wears an exquisitely fitted suit jacket over a white button-down with a tie and a long, snug skirt with a subtle mermaid flare that covers her feet. The left half of this suit is black edged with white and patterned with a white pinstripe. The right half is vivid red, also outlined with white. Parts of the jacket seem deconstructed, with hems flipped, the suggestion of chalk lines, and visible stitching. The skirt has a fly with four buttons printed in white against the black.
Her white shirt has rounded lapels, and her tie, which is tucked into a bodice, has wide black and red stripes separated by narrow slivers of white. A square, diamond brooch acts as a tie pin. The cuffs of her white shirt extend past the long sleeves of the jacket to reach the base of her fingers. She wears a black watch over one cuff and several rings, and she carries a black bag down by her side.
Benito AKA Bad Bunny in Prada

Bad Bunny wears an earth-brown suit with loosely fitting shoulders and a jacket cropped at the waist. A floral diamond pin with a yellow gem is shaped into a Flor de Maga, Puerto Rico’s national flower, and is affixed to one wide lapel. Under the jacket, Bad Bunny wears a fawn-brown button-up shirt and a cream-white, loosely knotted tie with a tie bar.
His brown pava hat is made with bronze and dark brown to mimic the weaving of the hats usually associated with the jíbaro, people who work in the Puerto Rico countryside. The hat sits cocked to one side over a single, crisp curl on his forehead, which harkens back to Josephine Baker’s iconic style. The rest of Bad Bunny’s short black hair is slicked back, and he has a goatee.
The backs of Bad Bunny’s brown leather gloves are encrusted with yellow crystals, and he holds a caramel-brown and dandelion yellow valise-sized bag by the two curved handles. The pointed tips of white boots peek out from his straight-legged pants. He also wears sunglasses with oval-shaped lenses and a diamond hoop earring in one ear.
Colman Domingo in Valentino

The first of Colman Domingo’s looks was made up of a floor-length, finely pleated, lapis-blue cloak. A separate collar that drapes over the shoulders on the sides and comes down past the chest in the front is covered with rich, gold sequins, clear crystals, and edged with a fur-like material. Frosted white and crystal teardrop-shaped and round beads create a wide ornate jeweled necklace. Round and teardrop-shaped diamonds on thin wires radiating from his ear cuff create a spray of sparkles.
Under this, Colman wore a three-piece suit with a black jacket covered with a shimmering silver grid. An oversized, white polka-dotted black rosette is pinned to one lapel. Colman wears an oyster-white vest over a champagne-white shirt, which is ribbed vertically down the front and on the long, pointed collar. A black scarf with white polka dots is tied at his throat so it falls loosely over his chest. His heather-gray slacks are pleated across the front, and wide cuffs break over black loafers. Colman wears a few diamond rings and keeps his ear cuff for this look.
Lewis Hamilton in Grace Wales Bonner

Lewis Hamilton wears an ivory-white suit, shirt, and beret reminiscent of suits worn in the Harlem Renaissance. The jacket is cropped at the waist and has tails. The shirt he wears underneath has iridescent white buttons, and he wears a pearl-white bowtie. A sash tied around his waist is ornamented with beads and cowrie shells. His gleaming, black patent-leather shoes have crystal-studded buckles.
The brooch he wears on one lapel has a garnet bar encircled at each end with gold bands. Above, diamond-encrusted petal-like forms are reminiscent of baobab fruit. Under the garnet, white pearls fan out under a diamond set in gold. Four round pearls and one teardrop-shaped pearl, in the middle, dangle from gold chains below. The cufflinks are hard to see but are shaped like a whirligig African daisy, which has a round center surrounded by finger-like petals that end with small scoop shapes.
The white beret, which has a gold brooch on one side, along with the all-ivory suit, harken back the iconic look of groundbreaking singer and performer Cab Calloway and also echo the white-on-white paintings of Barkley L. Hendricks, an American portrait painter active in the second half of the twentieth century.
Lauryn Hill in Jude Dontoh of Tribe of God

Lauryn Hill wears a lemon-yellow, boxy, double-breasted suit jacket and wide-legged slacks that fall to the floor, and a matching yellow cape and train. The jacket is nipped in at the waist and slightly cupped over the chest. She wears a crisp white button-down shirt and burgundy-red tie. Her gloves are sheer yellow organza, and she wears a nest-shaped gold ring. She holds a vibrant, sky-blue bag in one hand and a bedazzled fan in the other.
Her cape curves up over one shoulder in a spray that reaches higher than her hair, which is styled in a rounded afro. The cape comes down in front of that shoulder, gathers in an oversized figure-eight pleat under one arm. The cape continues to ripple down her back and then flare in a long, rounded train.
Her bulb-like gold earrings and necklace are inspired by calabash gourds, which are a symbol associated with West African culture. A Gala attendant wearing a black suit, gold necklace, and gold-trimmed, open-topped black hat holds a pale yellow parasol over Lauryn, emphasizing the connection to Ghanian royalty.
