The 0 Busters at Gallaudet
Caption:
Gallaudet students marched and protested until the Board of Trustees met their demand for a Deaf president. Among them were the “0 Busters,” who symbolized zero tolerance for another hearing president. A week later, Dr. I. King Jordan was appointed; the first Deaf leader of the world’s only university designed for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Alt Text:
Black and white photograph of four people arm in arm under a hand-made banner reading “The 0 Busters.” Countless people gather beyond.
Extended Description:
The person to the left wears a button-down shirt, jeans, and a pager clipped to the waistband. The next has glasses and a cargo-style jacket over a white shirt. The third wears a suit and tie and has four pin-back buttons along the lapel we can see. The other side of the jacket has flipped back so the lining and something in the pocket are visible. One of the buttons reads “3 ½” and another has a circle with a slash. The fourth person also wears glasses and has pin-back buttons affixed to his denim jacket. He wears a polo-style shirt and jeans. Bare tree branches reach into the sky past brick buildings in the background, and others appear to march behind this group.
